High Down Nursery is part of High Down Infant School and the children are able to use many of the school resources such as the computer suite, the library and the large school hall. The children have a safe and educationally stimulating environment. The staff of two teachers and two nursery trained Teaching Assistants are extremely well qualified to support your child’s development.

The children have access to two well resourced play areas where they can use bikes and trikes, complete gardening activities, use the large climbing frame and use the many toys we have available in the outside space. The nursery rooms are also well resourced including an interactive whiteboard to develop early computer skills as well as a large role play area, wet area for creative development and lovely book corner. (Please visit the School Tour to see images of the nursery).

We provide a safe, caring environment where children are encouraged to develop socially and emotionally. We support the children's learning through play and ensure that they access a range of activities to develop their skills and knowledge through all seven areas of learning. (For more information click on the Teaching and Learning Tab). We are very pleased that our nursery has been awarded 'Mini Music Makers Mentor' to acknowledge the high quality music opportunities we provide in nursery, as well as for the support we offer to other pre-school providers.

“The children respond to challenge with great enthusiasm and imagination and are willing to persevere at difficult tasks with the encouragement and support they receive.” OFSTED 08

Parents are encouraged to take an active role and many parents help during the nursery sessions. We have super learning diaries for each child that demonstrate the children’s development throughout the year in all seven areas of learning. They contain photographs of the children and are a lovely memento of their time in our nursery.

“All children make significant gains in their learning in the nursery and Reception classes and achieve high standards. Their personal, social and emotional development and their physical development are particularly advanced.” OFSTED 08

We support all children with transition into a school environment by getting the children involved in assemblies, P.E and using an ICT suite. This will support the children when settling into any school.

The best way to judge the 'Outstanding' provision we can offer is to visit the nursery and see our happy children enjoying learning through a play based curriculum. We would therefore encourage you to visit. Please telephone the school office on 01275 843969 to arrange an appointment.

We accept nursery applications once children are two, for an intake in September following a child's third birthday. If the nursery has spaces we will also offer a January and April intake.

Forms for the nursery can be collected from the school or you can download the following document.
